Media Release: Women on Boards and UBS launch new mentoring and development program

Catriona Pollard - Monday, October 25, 2010

Women on Boards and UBS Investment Bank today launched The Next Generation of Female Corporate Leaders mentoring and development program for 2011.

Many women have cited the lack of support that prevents them from reaching their full career potential. This new program aims to provide this support network, as well as an opportunity to connect with influential leaders they would not usually have access to.

Caroline Gurney, Managing Director, APAC Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing from UBS said, "UBS is delighted to support Women on Boards in launching this important program. UBS has sponsored WOB since 2005 and this program builds on the significant progress WOB has made educating and connecting high potential female talent with Australian boards."

Claire Braund, Executive Director of Women on Boards, said the new program was part of WOB’s strategy of increasing the visibility of talented women in management and executive roles with the long term goal of moving them into the boardroom.

“The program will include leading chairs and directors and provide the next generation of female corporate leaders and directors with the confidence and capacity to successfully engage with and present business proposals to boards.”

Ms Braund said the program had been made possible through the ongoing and generous sponsorship and support of UBS.

The program will focus on teaching participants how to best influence a board as well as practical hands on scenarios including the requirement for participants to prepare a business case to present to a mock board of real directors.

Applicants need to be female subscribers to Women on Boards who are currently reporting to, briefing or advising boards and/or senior management. Alternatively the applicant must have an expectation of needing to do this in the short to medium term.

Interested participants are invited to apply through the Women on Boards website from Monday 25 October with applications closing 19 November 2010. A panel comprising of the Chair of Women on Boards and an independent director will select the applicants.

The mentoring program will run from February to September 2011.
